Visit from Matthew Byers - Fitness Advisor

Image
Fitness Instructor, Matthew Byers, came to visit P3 today and talked about how to keep our bodies healthy.  He discussed about the importance of sleep, exercise and healthy eating.   He showed us some stretches to help with our posture after playing on gadgets when our neck and shoulders become tense.  This the Mountain stretch. We spelt our name using our hips. Matthew told us about his own training and how he uses skipping to improve his speed.   He also said how some sportsmen do ballet, yoga and pilates to help strengthen their muscles and help with balance. Reach the feet stretch. Muscles are like elastic bands and can become tight and twisted.  Stretching makes them stronger. It is important to drink water and keep hydrated.  It helps with your concentration and your learning.   Matthew talked about his job and what he learnt about at school.   The most important skill he learnt was listening which he uses daily in his job.

Visit from Karyn Tait from King Street Dentist

Image
Karyn Tait from the King Street Dentist came to speak to the children about how to look after their teeth.  She talked about the sugar content in food and how it can be harmful to your teeth.  Children were shown the amount of 'hidden sugar' in everyday foods.  Karyn talked to us about how the sugar in fruit is released once it has been mashed or liquidised which attacks or teeth straight away.  If we eat the fruit whole the sugar is only released once it is in our digestive system.
